Bunker & Vault

Solo

Bunker + Vault  (10 or 37 minutes)

Bunker + Vault is about the relentless pressures placed on the female body over generations. It is about repression, resistance, and resilience.

Though this is a deeply personal solo, I was influenced by archival research I did on the women who resided at the 92nd Y Residence and The Clara de Hirsch home for Working Girls from 1899-1950. Almost all of these women were Jewish immigrants from Eastern Europe. My practice grew from this research, embodying and visualizing memories of these women, as well as my own, approaching time in a non-linear fashion, and reflecting on shared history through generations.

This relentless solo uses grounded and rhythmical movement as an access point into intensity and rawness.
